Founded in 1909, the Firm prides itself on building teams of lawyers who are passionate and intellectually enthusiastic about the law and maintaining the strong and connected culture that we have embraced for over a century. Our firm is focused on establishing and strengthening long-term client relationships while ensuring teams are kept to optimal size to provide the highest quality advice, utmost efficiency, and seamless, cost-effective service across practices and offices.
At Loeb, we focus on building and maintaining a welcoming place to work, where both lawyers and staff enjoy longevity at the Firm. We believe that excellence can only be achieved through a culture of collaboration, inclusion and mutual respect for all people. This culture is a fundamental component of our firm’s success.
Who We Hire
With a focus on lateral hiring, we seek experienced candidates who have identified a chosen practice area and who aspire to continue to develop within their field. Successful candidates have strong academic backgrounds, relevant work experience and the desire to be part of a close-knit team. Many of our most successful lawyers possess an entrepreneurial spirit. Those who demonstrate the ability to take on matters beyond their years of experience are given the opportunity regularly. Recently, we have reinstituted a small Litigation-focused summer program for 2Ls in our New York and Los Angeles offices.
Professional Development
The Firm is deeply invested in the growth, engagement, and long-term success of our attorneys. Through a dynamic mix of structured programs, hands-on learning, and personalized support, we provide the tools and resources attorneys need to thrive at every stage of their careers.
Our commitment to professional development begins with the Loeb Institute, which offers a diverse range of in-house lawyering and professional skills training programs designed to support attorneys across all practice areas and seniority levels. In addition, we provide targeted, practice-specific training led by individual departments, along with access to premier external programs, conferences, and specialty workshops. Several of our departments also host attorney retreats, designed to foster connections, enhance collaboration, and facilitate meaningful learning within each practice group. To help attorneys refine their business development skills, we offer both internally-led training and specialized coaching programs for mid-level and senior associates, led by industry experts. For those advancing within the Firm, our Newly-Elevated Partner Academy provides dedicated programming to support the transition from associate to partner, equipping new partners with the skills and insights needed to succeed in their expanded roles.
Beyond formal training, we take a highly-personalized approach to attorney development. Our Legal Talent Management Department maintains close connections with associates to proactively identify growth opportunities and address individual needs. Through Quarterly Spot Coaching Days, attorneys can take advantage of confidential, one-on-one coaching sessions with an experienced executive coach and former Big Law partner. Our Mentoring program puts mentees in the driver’s seat, whereby they are able to foster meaningful connections with partners. Interactions within the program creates a forum to discuss key professional skills, such as leadership, communication, resilience, and team-building. We also ensure that all new hires are partnered with a lateral guide, who helps new attorneys acclimate to the Firm and seamlessly transition into their roles.
We believe Loeb & Loeb offers a viable path to partnership for high-performing associates. For those pursuing alternative tracks, counsel roles provide another avenue for advancement. Many of our alumni also transition into high-profile government or corporate roles—often with our clients—underscoring the strength of the professional foundation we help build.
Diversity & Inclusion
Over the past several years, we have taken great strides in defining our culture of inclusion and working to strengthen our initiatives and programs. The Firm’s growth is due to the leadership and commitment of the Firm’s Diversity Committee, which is comprised of 11 members of the Firm’s capital partnership. The focus of the committee is to address substantive topics such as recruitment, retention, promotion and advancement of attorneys, and to demonstrate how diversity, equity and inclusion supports the Firm’s business imperatives. The committee sets the strategy for enhancing the culture at Loeb to create an environment in which all employees have an equal opportunity to flourish.
The Firm is proud to have earned recognition from several organizations, including the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (earned the Top Performer 2024 award), the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index (ranked as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” for the last six years, as of 2024) and receiving Mansfield Certification each year since the Firm began participating in 2022.
In 2025, the Firm remains committed to furthering a work environment that is supportive of diversity in all circumstances and at all levels.
Pro Bono
Loeb’s Pro Bono program provides legal services without charge to those who cannot otherwise afford legal representation. Lawyers working on pro bono matters have full resources and firm support available to them. Over the past ten years, the Firm’s contribution to pro bono hours has doubled. Our lawyers work on a wide variety of pro bono projects, including immigration law, civil rights, family law, death penalty cases, veterans’ rights and more. A common theme through many of our pro bono cases has been the support of children and minors in need of legal services. Our work is varied – ranging from representing undocumented children in their asylum cases through partnership with Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) and helping families finalize foster care adoptions with the Alliance for Children’s Rights, to providing pro bono support to the nonprofit Saving Innocence whose mission is to eradicate child sex trafficking. We are proud to partner with a wide variety of local and national public interest organizations on pro bono initiatives to maximize the impact of our work.
Technology
Our Technology department supports the Firm's shift towards a more agile work environment. A focus on seamless mobility has provided our team the ability to work efficiently from any location. Similar to our clients and other leading industry professionals, Loeb is shifting toward a greater adoption of legal technology. Whether it’s technology supporting matter-related activities or platforms that promote efficiency in eDiscovery and data analytics, Loeb’s Technology department plays an important role in the Firm’s business strategy, client engagement and legal practices.
